MBA Moringa Farmer and Vegetable Exporter
Dear Reader,
We all know that necessity is the mother of invention. Something similar happened with Bijesh PK when he could not find fresh bananas in Dubai for the traditional Onam feast about a decade back.
Realising the gap between demand and supply of vegetables in Dubai, he quit his job and returned to Thrissur (Kerala). Bijesh took export licenses and began weekly export of a 160 kg vegetable consignment produced by 35 families.
His startup, Nature Beats Organic, now supplies organic vegetables grown in Kerala to over 1,000 families across Dubai, he told my colleague Chandhini.
Bijesh also runs a retail outlet in the Al Qusais area, making annual revenues of Rs 2 crore. Chandhini has detailed his foray into organic vegetable farming over 8 acres and his success strategy. Do read this piece.
My colleague Niroj spoke to Siddheswar Mishra, who worked as a manager for SK Micro Finance in Hyderabad after completing his MBA. However, the desire to return home to Bolangir in Odisha made him quit his job. He now grows moringa over four acres and manufactures ten products, including powder, soup, tea, and soaps.
He exports to England, France, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Germany and clocks an annual turnover of more than Rs 25 lakh. Siddheswar also helps other farmers foray into organic moringa farming and become agripreneurs.
My colleagues Aruna and Rama put together a piece on five microgreens entrepreneurs who started from a small space and now earn lakhs per month. Their stories are truly inspiring.
Our Sunday feature is on Gholvad, a quaint village in Maharashtra. It has received the GI tag for producing ultra-sweet chikoos (sapotas) with high calcium content and bumper yields.
Happy Reading!
Warmly,
Rashmi
