Purchased your dream home, now what?

Finding your dream home is often difficult. With a long list of criteria that need to be met, it can take quite a while to find the perfect one. So once you have finalized a house, you will want to rush the process and move in there. While it is the logical next step, it isn’t always the best thing to do.

When you buy a new home, you may want to try and delay your move-in date. This is because if the house requires repairs or renovations, it may be best to delay moving in until the work is finished to avoid the inconvenience of living in a construction zone.

Rather than rushing with all your belongings in there immediately, it is a good idea to take some time to clean the property, find and fix any hidden issues, secure the property and then personalize it. 

Once you have done this, you will likely settle into your new home quicker and easier. The last thing you want to do is have all this excitement for what you thought was your dream home, move everything in, and then have to try and work around your belongings to clean and decorate. While most houses are presented nicely for sale, you must know what lurks underneath.

Clean it 

Give the property a good clean. This will be much easier to complete without any belongings or furniture on the property. The property might look clean, and the previous owners may have even cleaned it, but you never know how well it has been cleaned or what lies beneath the surface, especially if they had animals. 

Secure it 

It is always good practice to change the locks on the doors and windows when you buy a new home, as you never know who has a key or access to the property. You may also opt for security cameras as additional security measures. 

Make it your own

The property may be decorated nicely, but it is important to make it your own through your unique set-up and designs. Even if you like the colours on the walls, you should customise your new home with your furniture. If it is just you and your partner, find a nice set of 2 dining chairs and a table to eat dinner together. Find a comfortable sofa and a cosy decor to decorate your living room with and add finishing touches around the home. This will make it truly yours.
