The Foundation for Environmental Education, Denmark, gives a global eco-level tag to beaches that meet environmental, cleanliness, and safety-related criteria. These beaches are then called Blue Flag beaches, selected by an international jury comprising members of the UN Environment Programme, UN World Tourism Organization, the Foundation for Environmental Education and IUCN.

In India, these beaches are in Lakshadweep, Gujarat, Diu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry and in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Here are India’s 12 cleanest beaches that stand out globally:

1. Minicoy Thundi Beach, Lakshadweep

Kadmat Beach has an expansive lagoon and vast sandy shores that encompass magnificent coral formations. Renowned as a hotspot for cruise tourists, it captivates visitors with thrilling water sports opportunities.

3. Ghoghla, Diu

Ghoghla is the largest beach of the Diu union territory and has Golden sand.

4. Kasarkod beach in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka

It has solid waste management plants, greywater treatment plants, seating arrangements, clean drinking water, and many other amenities.

5. Shivrajpur, Dwarka, Gujarat

This pristine beach near the Shivrajpur village stretches between a lighthouse and a rocky shoreline. It offers many activities including snorkeling, scuba diving and island tours.

It has a 200-metre-long safe swimming pool and is well known for its cleanliness.

7. Kappad beach, Kerala

About 16 km from Kozhikode, the beach is clean and also historic as Vasco-da-Gama landed here in 1498.

8. Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

Situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, this beach has golden sands with clear blue waters and greenery all around. Amid the frothy blue sea and emerald greenery, the scenery at this beach is mesmerizing and breathtaking.
